Virgin Voyages basics & FAQs:

Who is Virgin Voyages for?

Virgin Voyages is an adult-only cruise line, so you have to be at least 18 to sail. Virgin Voyages is not a traditional cruise line with formal dress codes, assigned meal times, and endless buffets. Instead, Virgin Voyages offers a little something for everyone with over 20 unique eateries, fun & engaging activities, and lots of great music everywhere you go. Come as you are, and just be you.

Virgin Voyages is for anyone who wants to be themselves and have FUN! Whether you’re a 1980s wrestling superstar, karaoke god, or fun-loving pirate, Virgin Voyages is for YOU!

Is Virgin Voyages LGBTQ+ friendly?

Yes! Virgin Voyages was named Best for LGBTQ+ Travelers by Cruise Critic. Come as you are, be your true self. Everyone is not only welcome, but celebrated, on Virgin Voyages.

What is the age range for Virgin Voyages?

Virgin Voyages welcomes sailors of all ages, ahem, 18+ of course. I’ve cruised with sailors of all ages who had a great time. Don’t worry about your age. If Virgin Voyages sounds like your idea of a good time, your age really won’t be a factor.

Does Virgin Voyages offer accessible cabins?

Yes! Virgin Voyages offers accessible cabins in all price categories. In fact, cruising is one of the most accessible vacations you can find!

Is Virgin Voyages all inclusive?

Virgin Voyages is mostly inclusive. Virgin Voyages offers Fair & Flexible Fares with most dining, beverages, and entertainment included.

What is included on a Virgin Voyages cruise?

  • Dining at all restaurants: over 20 unique eateries onboard! Check out our Virgin Voyages restaurant menus and dining guide to help plan your meals and restaurant reservations
  • Soft drinks and water: Sparkling water, non-pressed juices, drip coffee, soda, and even tea
  • Wifi: Virgin Voyages gets it. Wifi isn’t optional in today’s world. Stay connected and post those great vacation pics, wherever the sea takes you
  • Tips: The price you see is the price at sea, but you may still want to bring cash for the casino and shore adventures
  • Shows and entertainment: See awe-inspiring performances at sea, or compete in a dodgeball tournament
  • Group fitness classes: Detox before you retox! Virgin Voyages offers a ton of fun and challenging group fitness classes. Bungee fitness, boy band dance, and Richard Simmons 80s style classes are all included

What costs extra on Virgin Voyages?

Mostly everything is included on Virgin Voyages, but some things will cost a little extra. I’ve included some of my favorites below, but you can absolutely have a great time without spending a dollar more than your voyage fare.

  • Shore Things: Virgin’s punny term for guided shore excursions. Book these in advance as popular Shore Things sell out quickly. Learn How to spend your Virgin Voyages port days
  • Grog Walk: A guided, onboard bar hop with games and cocktails (or mocktails, if you prefer). The Grog Walk is a Journey’s With D must-do
  • Gambling: Gaming at the casino or Bingo with the Diva (also a must do) cost extra, but you can use your Sailor Loot for promotional casino chips and slot machine play
  • Alcoholic and premium beverages: Alcohol is self explanatory. Premium beverages include fresh pressed juices, gourmet coffees, and Dustin’s favorite, Sugar Free Red Bull
  • Spa passes & treatments: Daily spa passes, massages, and acupuncture, to name a few
  • Shopping: Scratch your shopping itch at High Street with premium fashion, Virgin Voyages merchandise, and more

Does Virgin Voyages have a drink package?

Virgin Voyages does not offer an all-inclusive alcohol package. Instead, Sailors can purchase a flexible Bar Tab to spend however they please. When you purchase your Bar Tab in advance, Virgin provides a bonus to give you even more free stuff! Check out the links below to learn more about the Virgin Voyages Bar Tab:

Where does Virgin Voyages sail?

Virgin Voyages sails from ports in North America, Australia, and across Europe. Check out the links below to find specific itineraries:

  • Caribbean: Sail from Miami & San Juan, all year round.
  • Europe: Sail from Portsmouth, Athens & Barcelona, May through October.
  • Australia & South Pacific: Sail from Australia & New Zealand.
  • Transatlantic & more: The world is truly your oyster with transatlantic & repositioning cruises with stops in Morocco, Singapore, Dubai, and more.

Does Virgin Voyages have theme nights?

Yes! Some of Virgin Voyages theme nights are listed below. Check the Sailor App for specific theme parties, times, and locations.

  • Scarlet Night: The hottest party at sea! Just wear red and party the night away.
  • Pajama Party: Just grab something comfy (or even a little naughty) and meet your new best friends in your PJs! And, in case you’re wondering, Is Virgin Voyages a sex cruise? No, it is not, but you may be able to score in public (not like that!) Get your mind out of the gutter.
  • Studio 72: Get funky and dance to your favorite 70s hits in The Manor. Of course, you should dress to impress!

What types of cabins does Virgin Voyages offer?

Virgin Voyages has spacious, ultra modern cabins for every budget.

  • Insider & Social Insider: Perfect for those who just need a place to sleep and get ready for the night ahead. These cabins do not offer any views of the sea.
  • Sea View: Similar to the Insider cabins, except you can see the sea through a porthole.
  • Sea Terrace, Central Sea Terrace, and Sea Terrace XL: I always recommend the Sea Terrace cabins as they offer spacious accommodations, a balcony big enough for two, and Virgin Voyages’ sweet red hammock. Go for the Sea Terrace XL for a much better bathroom experience.
  • RockStar Quarters: Let’s face it, you’re extra! Rockstar quarters are Virgin Voyages suites and come with some great perks such as a true European King bed, spacious balconies, priority boarding and reservations, an in-room record player, and even a fully-stocked bar in your suite! Check out my post to learn how to Sail like a Virgin Voyages RockStar on a Sea Terrace budget.
  • Mega RockStar Quarters: These are the best cabins around. Mega Rockstar perks include everything listed above for RockStars, but also a daily Bar Tab, a BOTTOMLESS in-room bar, free transports at select ports, daily spa passes, and premium Wifi so you can stream your favorite shows. Check out my other post, I sailed like a RockStar, and you should too, to learn more about the Mega RockStar experience.
How big is the Sea Terrace Cabin? Big enough for a karaoke god! Check out this video for a lighthearted glimpse at the Sea Terrace Cabin.

Virgin Voyages RockStar Perks

Virgin Voyages offers a ton of special RockStar perks. My favorites include:

  • Priority boarding and debarking: Skip the lines and be the first on and off the ship!
  • RockStar agent: Your onboard agent will cater to your every need including dinner and show reservations and special requests.
  • Richard’s Rooftop: Virgin’s exclusive RockStar retreat with ample shaded seating, a private bar, and complimentary cocktails during Richard’s Sunset Hour. Learn more about Richard’s Rooftop.
  • In-suite bar: That’s right, a bar right inside your suite!
  • True European King Bed: The biggest and most comfortable beds onboard.
  • Exclusive RockStar Retreat at the Beach Club at Bimini: Slip away from the pool party and enjoy table service meals and plenty of beach loungers.
  • Early access to dinner and event reservations: The most popular Shore Things and events will fill up. RockStars can make reservations before everybody else

What types of shore excursions does Virgin Voyages offer?

Virgin Voyages calls their shore excursions “Shore Things.” Virgin Voyages partners with local experts to provide smaller and more sustainable shore excursions than other cruise lines. Virgin Voyages classifies their Shore Things in different categories:

  • Cultured: Learn about the local history and culture from local experts or tour ancient Mayan ruins in Costa Maya and Cozumel
  • Daring: Get the adrenaline flowing with adventures like zip lining through tropical forests and over the ocean in Puerto Plata or snorkel with sharks in Bimini
  • Energetic: If you’re the type who leaves relaxing for the ship, hop on a fishing charter or swim with dolphins in Bimini
  • Once-in-a-lifetime: These spectacular Shore Things offer rare and unique experiences like scuba diving with hammerhead sharks in Bimini or a submarine adventure through a local reef in Aruba
  • Relaxing: Learn how to paint while sipping champagne in Bimini or enjoy a champagne and lobster dinner aboard a catamaran in Aruba.

Of course, you can always stay on the ship during port days and take advantage of the smaller crowds and cheap spa passes. Learn How to spend your Virgin Voyages port days. A good travel agent (that would be me) can also help you book shore excursions beyond what is offered by Virgin Voyages.
