The most risqué thing you are likely to see onboard a Virgin Voyages cruise will happen in your cabin behind closed doors, you naughty thing you (be sure to order the Splash of Romance package!) You may see a couple kissing passionately on the dance floor at The Manor or sharing a romantic dance and a slow kiss in an empty pool (you know who you are) but nothing worse than you would see at any dance club in the world. That said, there are plenty of places to score in public if that’s what you’re into.

In fact, I didn’t even know Deck 17 existed on my first voyage, so it’s not something you’re likely to just stumble across. I imagine there is some expected standard of behavior for this activity, but I’m afraid it’s beyond my knowledge and outside the scope of this post.

Does Virgin Voyages have a sex-shop onboard their ships? I have heard this rumor more than once, and I have never found anything resembling a sex-shop on a Virgin Voyages cruise. I asked a member of the Happenings Cast about this, and he laughed and shook his head no. If there is a secret sex toy speakeasy, it is well out of view. If you’re the creative type, every cabin does have a sextant-looking bottle opener/corkscrew you can purchase, but I wouldn’t recommend it for use outside of opening your beverages.

Is Virgin Voyages a swingers cruise? No. Virgin Voyages is not a swingers cruise. I have taken two Virgin Voyages cruises with my wife in the last couple of months. We have made friends with multiple couples on both voyages (not THAT kind of friends, get your head out of the gutter people!) We have not yet been approached by anyone looking to swing, wife swap, etc.  

Are there swingers on Virgin Voyages cruises? Yes, absolutely. But the reality is, swingers come from all walks of life, and I assure you that you likely know one or two couples who partake in “the lifestyle.” The upside-down pineapple is the boldest announcement that a couple is open to swinging. Walk the halls of several cruise ships, and you will see the occasional upside-down pineapple hanging from a cabin door. (Or for kicks, take a look at your neighbors door knockers the next time you walk the dog!) The upside down pineapple is your dead giveaway that a cabin hosts a couple looking to swing. Virgin Voyages does not allow sailors to decorate their cabin doors, so you will not find these on a Virgin Voyages cruise. 

If you are observant, you will likely find a couple or two wearing an upside-down pineapple on their shirts. This is also a solid clue that you may have found a swinger. Of course, you may have just stumbled upon someone who really likes pineapples. I am not a swinger, but I do have a North Dakota State University Hawaiian shirt with a right-side-up pineapple.

I’m not sure where this rumor comes from, but it’s likely from the fact that Virgin Voyages is an adults only (18+) cruise line. You will hear more swearing, innuendo, and cheeky puns (see what I did there?) on a Virgin Voyages cruise than you would on a Disney cruise.

You will see some revealing swimwear and short dresses, but rest assured that Virgin Voyages cruises are not some wild no-rules floating sex party. You will not be harassed for sex, and you will not stumble upon a public hot tub couples swap. These sort of things are still crimes at sea, and offenders would face consequences up to lifetime bans from the cruise line.
