Virgin Voyages Test Kitchen, a Review

Published by

There are a lot of opinions about the trendy, laboratory-like Test Kitchen, which is a Virgin Voyages restaurant where people can push the boundaries of taste and expectation to discover an unconventional cuisine. It’s a unique adventure for your tastebuds, and although we only got to test one of the menus, we found the experience wildly fun and worth the visit!

Test Kitchen is located on the 6th deck behind the retail shops. It wasn’t very easy to find, but every night the reservations were full. It was a very popular destination on the ship!

When you arrive at Test Kitchen, the staff seats you at a bar that spans across the room and around an open concept kitchen prep area. This is where the servers stage the food before they introduce it to you.

Introduction of the Menu

There is a menu card at your seat, showing a summary of the offerings for the evening at Test Kitchen. And when I say summary, I mean it!

The Courses

When the first course arrived, it looked like corn. Well, who would have expected corn to do this?

Only in Test Kitchen can corn do this!

After this first course, I was intrigued and couldn’t wait to try more, and the remainder of the courses did not disappoint! I was served meals that defied logic but were surprisingly delicious!

  • A corn spread with beverage pairing at Test Kitchen
  • A smoked salmon dish with beverage pairing at Test Kitchen
  • A beetroot dish with beverage pairing at Test Kitchen
  • A seafood dish at Test kitchen with non-alcoholic beverage pairing.
  • A lamb dish with beverage pairing at Test Kitchen
  • Asparagus sorbet with beverage pairing at Test Kitchen
  • A strawberry dessert with beverage pairing at Test Kitchen

Drink Pairings

Test Kitchen offers drink pairings for each course, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. We tried the non-alcoholic pairings, and they were absolutely divine. I was not expecting the pairings to give me exactly what I needed for each course.

The drink pairings cost extra in Test Kitchen, but this is something you can spend your Bar Tab on.

Conclusion

If you are an adventurous eater and open to fun new experiences with food, I highly recommend booking a reservation at Test Kitchen. Be sure to get your reservations in early because the Test Kitchen is always full!
